Russell Slade has left his position as Cardiff's head of football, the club announced on Friday.

Slade, whose tenure as manager at the Cardiff City Stadium ended earlier this year, leaves his role with immediate effect.

"Cardiff City FC can confirm that, by mutual agreement, Russell Slade has left his position as the club's head of football with immediate effect," read a statement released on the club's website on Friday.

"We'd like to express our sincere thanks to Russell for his efforts in helping to move the club forward since arriving in 2014. He leaves with our very best wishes for the future."

After four successful years in charge of Leyton Orient, Slade was appointed as manager at Cardiff following the sacking of former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2014.

The former Brighton and Yeovil boss was given the task of gaining Cardiff promotion back to the Premier League but could only guide the Bluebirds to 11th and 8th place finishes during his two years in charge of the Championship club.

The 55 year-old was removed from his managerial role in May and instead took up a new role as head of football at the club - leaving coaching duties to newly-appointed boss, Paul Trollope.
