Dwight Gayle believes Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann would be an England player if he was at one of the Premier League's more high-profile clubs.
Dann has produced a series of impressive displays for his club this season and grabbed a rare goal on Sunday to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
But the 28-year-old has been consistently overlooked for a place in his England squad and Gayle believes Roy Hodgson is missing a trick by ignoring his claims.
Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew feels Dann has been underestimated throughout his career, and Gayle told Sky Sports News HQ there is little more the former Blackburn defender can do to prove himself.
Speaking at a Show Racism The Red Card event, Gayle said: "He's a great player and it looks effortless to him. That's a compliment to his ability.
"I'm not sure why he has not been called up. His ability in every aspect of the game is really good. He's good on the ball, good defensively, reads the ball well and gives you everything you want in a defender.
"If he was playing at one of the bigger clubs he would definitely be around a lot more. I'm sure people will take note when a few of them get called up and they will start looking a bit further down the league."
Gayle is hopeful he will not be sidelined for too long after suffering a hamstring injury in the run-up to Sunday's game.
"I felt a niggle before the Liverpool game but hopefully it is not too bad, and hopefully I am back playing as soon as I can," he added.
"There's not a certain date, I'm just going to see how it goes. I think I am going to have it re-scanned in the next week or so."
