David Moyes has revealed Sunderland have turned down a bid from Crystal Palace for left-back Patrick van Aanholt.
Sky sources understand the offer was in the region of £7m.
Moyes also confirmed there have been no further offers for striker Jermain Defoe, who was the subject of a £6m offer from West Ham earlier in the transfer window.
Palace have been busy this month already, agreeing a deal for Leicester's Jeffrey Schlupp while Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson is set to move to Selhurst Park.
They have also been linked with a move for Juventus full-back Patrice Evra and have widened the net to include Van Aanholt, but Sunderland are not keen to sell.
When asked if a bid for the player had been turned down, Sunderland manager Moyes said: “Yes that is correct.
“I don’t want to talk about it as I don’t think it’s right but I think it’s out in the open and I’ll try stay away from it.
“He’s a really important player for us; he’s got an awful lot going for him. He’s still young and yet, still has a lot to learn. But he’s done very well, he’s earned his points by his goals and assists this year.”
And he added: “We’ve actually had a bid for quite a lot of our players, because we’ve got some good players here and maybe people think we could be easy pickings but we’re not.
“I want to keep all our good players; I want us to keep them here. I want us to build, I want us to add to our group rather than lose players.”
