Crystal Palace's proposed trip to Dubai has been cancelled in the wake of their 4-0 defeat to Sunderland, Sky Sports News HQ understands.

Chairman Steve Parish spoke 'passionately' and 'at length' to players in the home dressing room, telling them what is expected of them from the club's board and its fans.

Sky sources understand Parish, along with majority shareholders, American businessmen Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, vetoed a warm weather four-day break to Dubai, planned after Palace's match at Stoke this weekend.

Although similar warm-weather breaks have proven successful for manager Sam Allardyce's teams previously, the board felt the performance and result against Sunderland, combined with the mood of the Palace fans, subsequently meant plans for the trip to the UAE had to be shelved.

Allardyce and his coaching staff called the players into the club's Beckenham training ground for 7am on Sunday for a "full and frank" debrief and video analysis session, where Allardyce ran through individual performances and players had the chance to raise their own concerns.

Allardyce believes Palace's poor record at Selhurst Park is down to his team playing with the fear of failure.
