Irish midfielder on the brink of Eagles switch

Ipswich boss Roy Keane admits that Owen Garvan's proposed move to Crystal Palace is close to completion. The Eagles tabled a £150,000 bid for the midfielder last week and are poised to push through a deal. The 22-year-old has been a regular for Ipswich since making the breakthrough in 2005/06, but is now set to move on. Keane put the Irishman up for sale at the start of the summer, having deemed him surplus to requirements at Portman Road. He admits it is always difficult to part with promising youngsters, but knows moving players out in order to make room for new recruits is part and parcel of football.

Valuations

"That looks like it is going to go through, that's why Garvan has missed today's game," Keane told Sky Sports News after watching his side go down 1-0 to West Ham in their latest pre-season friendly. "We are disappointed to lose decent players, but it's sometimes about moving players on to get some in. "We will hopefully try to get one or two new faces into the club during the week but, trust me, it's easier said than done. It's very difficult when you are dealing with club's valuations and on top of all that agents are involved as well. "Hopefully we might have news in the next few days, but there's a long way to go in any new faces coming to the football club. "If they don't, we saw the team today. When we go to Middlesbrough next Saturday, this is the style of our team - we will fight for every ball, every minute."
