Burnley started their preparations for life back in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory against Swiss side FC Stade Nyonnais.

Sean Dyche's side cruised into a 2-0 first-half lead in their first pre-season encounter thanks to goals from Andre Gray and Ashley Barnes.

Former Juventus youngster Stipe Simunac reduced the hosts' deficit just before the break but Michel Keane restored Burnley's two-goal advantage moments later.

Dyche named a completely different outfield team after half-time, with only Paul Robinson keeping his place in goal as Burnley failed to add to their first-half goals on their way to an opening pre-season victory.

The Premier League new boys sprung out of the blocks in Nyon with Gray going close on two occasions in the opening eight minutes.

The striker was in the action again in the 13th minute - this time he was denied by a point-blank save from goalkeeper Damien Djuri following George Boyd's cross.

Gray finally broke the deadlock seven minutes later, latching onto Ashley Barnes' through ball before powering the ball into the roof of the net.

The visitors doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Barnes met Aiden O'Neill's ball and his downward header beat Djuri.

FC Stade Nyonnais were back in it just before the break when Simunac's low drive from 25 yards picked out the bottom corner, leaving Robinson with no chance.

However, there was still time for Burnley to restore their two-goal lead as Keane rose highest to head Michael Kightly's free-kick past Djuri and into the back of the net.

Dyche made 10 changes at the interval, but it was the hosts who nearly pulled a goal back with Karim Chentouf firing wide from 18 yards.

Burnley made their 11th change on the hour mark with Northern Ireland U21 goalkeeper Conor Mitchell coming on for his debut in place of Robinson.

The visitors came close to extending their advantage midway through the second half through Lukas Jutkiewicz, but his header was ruled out.

Jutkiewicz again went close, firing an overhead kick against the crossbar before Rouwen Hennings' shot was blocked right at the death.
