Burnley face tougher challenge than two years ago, says Sean Dyche

Sean Dyche says rising transfer fees since Burnley were last in the Premier League leaves them with a big challenge ahead.

Burnley were relegated from the Premier League in 2015 but were returned to the top flight at the first time of asking following after winning the Championship last season. 

And Dyche admitted the market is unrecognisable since their last period in the Premier League, highlighting the gap between them and the top clubs.

"I think it is tough for all concerned, not just Burnley," said Dyche. "I think the market has gone up again so everyone made a big deal out of the financial package that the TV offers.

"Everything has gone up, from two years ago it has jumped again and some of the numbers for players are astounding at times.

"It was well documented, it was Angel Di Maria at that time and now it is Paul Pogba. His fee is more than Burnley have ever spent in their whole history and that gives you a measure of where we are in the grand scheme of the market."

Burnley chairman Mike Garlick confirmed on Wednesday the club are still trying to bring in "three or four signings", having added six players to the squad so far this summer.

Dyche's side will face Swansea at Turf Moor on Saturday in their Premier League opener and despite other clubs' spending, the 45-year-old insisted Burnley will persist with their current philosophy.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes the perception of the work done by English managers is different to foreign coaches

"It is a great position to be in in the sense that we have earned the right to be here so we want to push the model, the journey, the players, push everything about what we want to do in order to be in it continually," he added.

"It is a big challenge, there is no two ways about it."
