Norwich manager Alex Neil has confirmed Alex Tettey will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury

Norwich City will be without midfielder Alex Tettey for the rest of the season with an ankle ligament injury.

The midfielder was hurt in the 36th minute of the Canaries' 2-1 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at Carrow Road on Tuesday night in a collision with Eden Hazard.

It has been confirmed that he will require surgery on the injury and will not play again during the current campaign.

Tettey has started 23 of Norwich's 28 Premier League games this season and has scored twice for the relegation-threatened club.

"Alex has hurt his ankle ligaments; he did it in the past and he needed an operation on his other foot," said boss Alex Neil at his press conference on Friday.

"He's re-injured his other leg and unfortunately he's going to need to have an operation and he's probably going to miss the rest of the season.

"He had an X-ray as soon as he came off the pitch and a scan the morning after and it's quite conclusive that he needs an operation to correct it.

"It's not good news, Alex has played most of the games that we've had, but we've got strength in numbers and depth in that area so it will be somebody else's chance to come in and play."
