Queens Park Rangers have had two bids for winger Yeni Ngbakoto rejected by Metz, according to Sky sources.
It is understood the Sky Bet Championship club's latest offer for the 24-year-old was just under £1m.
Ngbakoto, capped by France at U17 and U18 level, impressed last season for the French Ligue 2 side, scoring 15 times in 42 matches.
He has two years remaining on his current contract at Metz.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who was appointed as QPR manager last December, is looking to shape his squad ahead of his first full season at Loftus Road.
He has already secured the services of young midfielder Christopher Paul from Tottenham on a free transfer.
The 18-year-old impressed while on trial at the club last season, appearing for the U18 and U21 sides, and has signed a one-year deal.
