Jamie Vardy: Equalling record would be an honour

Jamie Vardy praised the character of his side after he scored for the eighth Premier League game in a row as Leicester beat West Brom 3-2.
The striker became just the third player to achieve that feat, after Ruud van Nistelrooy and Daniel Sturridge, while Van Nistelrooy is the only man who has gone beyond Vardy, when he netted for Manchester United in 10 consecutive games in 2003.
Vardy said he would be delighted to match that record, but insists he is still focused solely on the next game for Leicester.
"Obviously, if I achieved it, it would be an absolute honour," he said. "But I've just got to prepare for the next game, knuckle down and hopefully score in that one.
"As soon I was through on goal and it was one-on-one, I fancied my chances and luckily I slotted it past him."
Leicester fell behind through Salomon Rondon's opener at The Hawthorns, before a second-half comeback saw them run out winners and rise to third in the Premier League table.
Riyad Mahrez struck twice and Vardy bagged a third before Rickie Lambert pulled one back late on for the Baggies from the penalty spot.
But Vardy praised the character of his side after they held on for victory.
"I think we started well and were unlucky to go behind and come in 1-0 down at half-time. But you can see from the character of the boys how we've come back in the second-half.
"They've managed to get a goal back and put the pressure on so it was backs to the wall," he added. "But we defended it through and came away with another three points."
Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri was pleased with his side but is not getting carried away despite his side's lofty position.
"It's a good sound [being third], but it's not the end of May," he said. "It was important to win here as they won their last two games 1-0, but we wanted to win and I think we deserved to score in the first-half.
"But it was a good reaction and [we showed] good character in the battle. We were ready to fight."
