Jamie Vardy scored for the 10th Premier League game in a row on Saturday - equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy's record streak.
The Leicester forward has been in remarkable form this season and expertly cut in from the left flank to fire a right-footed shot into the Newcastle net to match the goal-scoring record.
Van Nistelrooy's 10th game was also at St James' Park. On that occasion the Dutchman helped Manchester United to a 2-1 win in August 2003.
On Friday the striker had wished Vardy well in his bid to match his record. The Leicester attacker had missed England's friendlies against Spain and France with a hip injury but trained with his club this week ahead of the trip to Newcastle.
Vardy's run started in August when he scored a penalty four minutes from time to rescue Leicester a point against Bournemouth. He has since gone on to find the net against Aston Villa, Stoke, Arsenal (twice), Norwich, Southampton (twice), Crystal Palace, West Brom, Watford and Newcastle.
Next up for Vardy and Leicester: Manchester United at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy's scoring streak
Bournemouth 1-1 Leicester - August 29
Vardy's run started with an 86th-minute penalty to earn Leicester a point on the south coast. Vardy won the penalty himself when he was brought down by Steve Cook inside the area and the striker picked himself up to score from the spot.
Leicester 3-2 Aston Villa - September 13
Vardy made it two in two by poking home an equaliser with eight minutes to play against Aston Villa. Leicester had battled back from two goals down and went on to pull off a remarkable comeback by scoring a late third.
Stoke 2-2 Leicester - September 19
Leicester were two goals behind again the following weekend at Stoke. And once again they fought back. Vardy scored the equaliser, slotting past Jack Butland.
Leicester 2-5 Arsenal - September 26
Vardy's brace against Arsenal was in a losing cause. His first, converting a counter-attack, opened the scoring but his curling effort late on was nothing more than a consolation.
Norwich 1-2 Leicester - October 3
Vardy was brought down by Sebastien Bassong in the box and converted the penalty to set Leicester on course for a 2-1 win at Carrow Road.
Southampton 2-2 Leicester - October 17
Vardy played his part in another Leicester fightback at Southampton. This time the forward scored both goals as Leicester came from two down to earn a point at St Mary's. His first was a header, his second a shot into the top corner in stoppage time.
Leicester 1-0 Crystal Palace - October 24
Vardy hit the winner against Crystal Palace after being put through on goal by Riyad Mahrez - his 10th goal of the season.
West Brom 2-3 Leicester - October 31
Vardy put Leicester 3-1 up with a powerful finish to take his scoring streak to eight games in a row. Only Daniel Sturridge and Ruud van Nistelrooy had achieved that feat.
Leicester 2-1 Watford - November 7
Regular penalty-taker Mahrez allowed Vardy to take a second-half penalty and the England international found the net to put Leicester 2-0 up.
Newcastle 0-2 Leicester - November 21
Vardy matched Van Nistelrooy's Premier League record by scoring for a 10th game in a row, firing in a low shot with his right.
