Steve Walsh believes Leicester City and their star striker Jamie Vardy can continue their remarkable runs when they host Manchester United on Saturday.

Claudio Ranieri's side will head into this weekend's matches sitting proudly at the top of the Premier League table with 28 points from 13 games, with United just a point behind in second place.

Vardy equalled former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy's Premier League record of scoring in 10 successive matches when he was on target in Leicester's 3-0 victory at Newcastle last Saturday.

The England international now has the top-flight record of netting in 12 successive games - set by Sheffield United's Jimmy Dunne in the 1931/32 season - in his sights and former Leicester defender Walsh expects him to eclipse that mark.

"I think he can [beat Dunne's record]," Walsh, who played 369 games for the Foxes between 1986 and 2000, told Sky Sports News HQ.

"He scored against Man Utd last year and don't forget we won 5-3 against them at the King Power Stadium last year so the confidence is there. I do believe that the confidence is good enough to go and beat Man Utd or anybody at the moment.

"We are certainly in the mix and we are good enough if we are disciplined and organised like we have been.

"Vardy is just unstoppable at the minute. He deserves it. He's in terrific form, he's a nuisance and he's really quick. I think the players around him are better than last season as well. I think we have added cutely to our squad."

Manchester United's visit to the King Power Stadium marks the start of a tough run of fixtures for Leicester as it is followed by games against Swansea (away), Chelsea (home), Everton (away), Liverpool (away) and Manchester City (home).

Walsh reckons Leicester are capable of continuing their good run, but is reserving judgement on where they will finish at the end of the season until they have negotiated this tricky period.

He said: "I'd be happy with top eight, but the players in this form are capable of beating some of these top teams. But let's have a look towards Christmas. We have got a tough month so let's have a look at it then.

"If we are up there then, then we might be looking at top six and the Europa League."
