Leicester have the same qualities as 1992 First Division title-winners Leeds United, according to Gordon Strachan.
Strachan was part of the Leeds side that clinched the old First Division crown over Manchester United in 1992, two years after being promoted to the top flight.
Speaking on Goals on Sunday, the Scotland manager drew comparisons between Howard Wilkinson's team and Claudio Ranieri's Premier League leaders.
"It [Leeds] was a team that overpowered teams and a team that was quite basic but when it came to areas to play we could play."
Scotland manager Strachan was part of a formidable midfield quartet alongside Gary McAllister, Gary Speed and David Batty that set the standard for the rest of the squad. He said it was up to Leicester's players next season to follow in the footsteps of the current crop.
"The standards [at Leeds] were set not by the fitness coaches or nutritionists or anything else. It was the guys who led from the front that trained every day and said 'Right, we'll lead from the back and we'll take you. You want to join us. If you can't join us you're not good enough for us'," he said.
"I love people who get the maximum out of themselves and don't use anything as an excuse. There are too many people who say 'the manager doesn't like me' or 'I never got the breaks there'.
"I've never heard so much rubbish. You determine where you go in life and there will be something out there you'll be good at."
