Leicester are to appoint former Valencia player and sporting director Eduardo Macia as their head of recruitment before the weekend, Sky sources understand.

The 42-year-old Spaniard, a former chief scout at Liverpool and sporting director at Real Betis, will replace Steve Walsh, who left in the summer to join Everton.

Claudio Ranieri insists he's happy that Jamie Vardy played no part in England's win against Slovakia in their first World Cup qualifier.

Walsh led the recruitment team that helped bring previously unheralded players such as Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante to Leicester.

Having been initially reluctant to let such a valuable member of the backroom staff leave, Leicester eventually relented and manager Claudio Ranieri will be hoping Macia can spot some more hidden gems to bring to the King Power Stadium.
