Craig Shakespeare's sacking as Leicester City manager 'seems harsh', says Steve Walsh

Craig Shakespeare's sacking as Leicester City manager on Tuesday "seems harsh", according to former captain Steve Walsh.

Shakespeare was removed from his position at Leicester on Tuesday afternoon after just one Premier League win from their opening eight games, a run which sees them in the bottom three.

Sky Sports News understands former England boss Sam Allardyce and ex-Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel are not interested in the post, while Chris Coleman - who is currently in charge of Wales - has been strongly linked in several national newspapers.

Walsh, who played more than 300 times for Leicester, admits he "feels sorry" for Shakespeare but is not surprised by the club's decision.

"We know what football management industry is now - it's very cut throat," Walsh told Sky Sports News.

"It was a poor game on Monday night against West Brom and football managers now if they don't get a win in six or seven games then the pressure's on. Unfortunately for Craig Shakespeare, this is what's happened.

"He's a great guy and a great coach but expectations are really high and he's one win away from 10th place in the league - it does seem harsh but unfortunately that is football management now.

Michael Appleton will take temporary charge of the club for Saturday's Premier League trip to Swansea City, but Walsh believes Leicester need to bring in a suitable replacement as soon as possible.

"I'm sure they will be acting as quickly as they can. It's vital now that things settle down," he added.

"It's going to be a rough few weeks but I'm sure they'll get somebody quickly. It's going to be a rough few weeks but surely they'll get somebody quickly."
