Leicester City defender Callum Elder has joined Barnsley on loan.

The Australian youth international had been on loan at Championship club Brentford since last summer.

The deal with the Bees had a break clause during January and the Premier League champions have decided to send him to the Yorkshire club.

Elder started the first six games of the Championship season for Brentford before picking up an injury against Brighton, which ruled him out for more than three months.

Brentford's head coach Dean Smith said: "I would like to express my thanks to Callum for his efforts during his time here at Brentford.

"He was very unfortunate to get injured early in his loan spell, away at Brighton, which limited his appearances with us.

"He came with a lot of potential and had adjusted really well to the demands of the Championship."
