Steve Bruce has held informal talks with the Football Association over the vacant England manager's role

Hull City have confirmed that Steve Bruce has held informal talks with the Football Association about the England manager's job.

Bruce has long been linked with the job following the resignation of Roy Hodgson in the wake of England's Euro 2016 exit to Iceland and said last week he would be delighted to be considered.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has been already approached and has met with the FA's vice-chairman David Gill, technical director Dan Ashworth and chief executive Martin Glenn.

Sky sources understand the FA could make a decision this week and Sunderland's plea for a quick resolution to the matter has been echoed by Hull in a short statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

"We can confirm that manager Steve Bruce has held informal discussions with the FA regarding the vacant England manager role," the statement read.
