Hull are putting Ryan Mason through the second part of a medical on Tuesday ahead of a permanent switch from Tottenham, Sky sources understand.

Hull and Spurs had agreed a fee for the midfielder last week but north-east rivals Sunderland were also interested and were understood to have spoken to the player.

The 25-year-old has fallen behind Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and new signing Victor Wanyama in the pecking order for places under Mauricio Pochettino, who is also keen to bring through promising youngster Harry Winks.

Hull are on the cusp of a number of signings in the final days of the transfer window, including Cardiff 'keeper David Marshall and Derby County midfielder Jeff Hendrick.

Mason is a product of Tottenham's academy and is well liked by Pochettino, who made him captain on a number of occassions, but he is set to join former Spurs players Jake Livermore, Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson on Humberside.

He is one of a number of players Tottenham have been prepared to sell before the end of the transfer window, including DeAndre Yedlin, who has joined Newcastle, Nacer Chadli, who has signed for West Brom, and midfielder Tom Carroll, who has a year left on his contract.

Clinton N'Jie is expected to join Marseille on a season-long loan as part of a deal for Tottenham to sign France U21 winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.
