Shaun Maloney is on the verge of joining Championship side Hull from MLS outfit Chicago Fire.

The Scottish forward looks set for a return to England, just seven months after leaving Wigan to become one of Chicago Fire's designated players.

Steve Bruce is desperate for attacking reinforcements following the departures of Dame N'Doye and Tom Ince over the summer and the Hull Boss has since confirmed Maloney is set to move to the club.

"Shaun is close to joining," Bruce said.

"He's got that bit of quality on the ball, he's played at the highest level and he will give us that little bit of something extra."

Maloney had two spells at Celtic either side of a year spent at Aston Villa during the 2007/08 season.

But Maloney returned to England in 2011, spending three-and-a-half seasons at Wigan, where he scored 15 goals in 91 appearances for the Latics.
