Leeds head coach Steve Evans insists teenage midfielder Lewis Cook will not be sold to Bournemouth in the January transfer window and described Sam Byram's possible Elland Road exit as "a long way off".

Club president Massimo Cellino had already confirmed Cook would be staying at Elland Road after Bournemouth had followed up their interest with a bid for the 18-year-old, while Evans hinted there had also been another approach for the player.

"There's no doubt, there's very solid interest in Lewis Cook but I had a strategy meeting with the president (on Wednesday) and Lewis Cook is certainly not going anywhere," said Evans, who has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship manager of the month award.

"There's no more conversations to have about Lewis Cook. I think the president is in receipt of some offers, yes.

"He said we would get into real discussion if we received a bid and he was thinking about accepting it and what we could do with that money.

"But it was very clear from when I sat down with him that he had no interest in accepting either of them.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans spoke about the speculation surrounding midfielder Lewis Cook and a potential move to Bournemouth on SSN HQ on Wednesday

"I think every player in the world is for sale. Some clubs may say they're not, but they are. This isn't about putting any player up as an option, he's not going to be sold in this window."

Versatile right-sided player Byram, 22, has courted interest from several Premier League clubs after refusing to sign an extension to his contract, which ends in the summer.

"Again there's a lot of interest in Sam," Evans said.

"He's in a slightly different position. He's admired by some coaches in the league above and two of those clubs have had conversations with the president.

"But that's still a long, long way off anything being concrete to happen."

Evans said he had not given up on one of his own transfer targets, Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty, but confirmed a possible deal was at an impasse as Leeds wanted to take the Northern Ireland international initially on loan, while the Premier League club were holding out for a straight sale.

Former Rotherham boss Evans added he was also "talking with other strikers", but had been told both Stoke's Peter Crouch and unsettled Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish were not available.
