Southend have signed winger Stephen McLaughlin on a two-year deal from Nottingham Forest.

The 25-year-old has returned to Roots Hall after ending last season on loan with the Shrimpers.

He passed a medical and trained with the squad on Wednesday ahead of their Sky Bet League One trip to Coventry on Monday.

"I'm really pleased to have brought Stephen back and not many teams at this level will have options like we do out wide now," boss Phil Brown told the Southend Echo.

"With Kevan Hurst, Myles Weston and David Worrall also available we have real competition for places out there which I'm delighted about. All we need now is another centre-back and a striker and that will be me done."
