Gary Caldwell is among the nominations for February’s League One Manager of the Month award after guiding Wigan to second in the table.

Caldwell is up against Paul Heckingbottom of Barnsley, Oldham's John Sheridan and Luke Williams, who has made a big impact at Swindon.

Wigan enjoyed a fine February under Caldwell and have now reached the automatic promotion places, after claiming 10 points from a possible 12 in the month, scoring seven goals and conceding just one.

Barnsley are also on the up and have now reached the play-off places, thanks in part to a successful February.

Heckingbottom took charge of a side who had won six in a row and he has continued Lee Johnson's good work, taking 10 points from his first five games at the helm.

Forward Nicky Ajose has been a key figure for Swindon and he is among the Player of the Month nominees.

The other contenders are Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer, Bradford forward James Hanson and Barnsley defender Alfie Mawson.

The goals flowed freely for Ajose in February and the 24-year-old netted six in four games, including a hat-trick against Blackpool and a superb free-kick against Peterborough.

Archer excelled at the other end of the pitch for Millwall, who conceded just three goals in five games, and he had the presence of mind to head a Mark Beevers back pass over the crossbar in spectacular fashion.

Hanson was on target three times for play-off chasing Bradford, scoring with a pair of towering headers as they hammered Peterborough 4-0 in his 300th game for the Bantams.

Barnsley's continuing good form has been built on a solid defence and centre-back Mawson helped them to concede just three goals all month, while also scoring a fine free-kick during the 2-1 victory at Crewe.
