Southend midfielder Myles Weston completed a major milestone in his comeback from injury on Tuesday by playing 65 minutes against Bournemouth under-21s.
The 27-year-old has been unavailable since November with a foot injury but felt no ill-effects in the 1-1 draw with the Cherries.
Southend travel to Barnsley in Sky Bet League One on Saturday and Weston is now eyeing a first-team return.
He told the club's official website: "It's up to the manager whether I play some part on Saturday; if he feels I'm ready then I'm ready."
