Leon Barnett has signed a two-year contract with Bury after being released by Wigan.
The defender scored once in 24 appearances for the Latics last season, helping them win the Sky Bet League One title.
He has now dropped back down to the third tier to join David Flitcroft's Shakers.
The 30-year-old began his career with Luton and gained Premier League experience with both West Brom and Norwich.
He has also spent time on loan with Coventry and Cardiff.
