League One round-up: Scunthorpe extend lead, Bradford up to second

Scunthorpe extended their lead at the top of League One with a 1-0 win at Coventry.

Josh Morris' 14th goal of the season was enough for a third successive victory to take the Iron five points clear of Bradford, who moved into second place by virtue of a 4-0 win at home to Rochdale and Bolton not playing until Sunday.

The Bantams took 41 minutes to break down their opponents but scored twice before the break through Billy Clarke and Thimotee Dieng and, after Niall Canavan was sent off for a second bookable offence, James Hanson and Mark Marshall completed the rout.

Aiden O'Brien scored eight minutes later and two goals in less than five second-half minutes from Shaun Williams, Lee Gregory and Harry Smith wrapped up victory as Milwall moved up to eighth. That is one place behind AFC Wimbledon, who were held to a goalless draw by struggling Oldham.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas's added-time goal gave Gillingham their first league win since September 24 as they came from behind to beat Northampton 2-1. The visitors had taken the lead through John-Joe O'Toole's 36th-minute header but Max Ehmer equalised just after the interval before the late drama.

Port Vale's late comeback saw them move into sixth after a 2-1 home win over Fleetwood which saw both sides reduced to 10 men. Chris Long, who was later sent off in the 90th minute for violent conduct, gave the visitors a 52nd-minute lead but Rigino Cicilia levelled things up with 15 minutes to go and Alex Jones struck four minutes from the end before Anthony Grant and Long both saw red.

Tim Sherwood's reign as Swindon's director of football began with a 3-0 victory over Charlton. Morgan Fox was credited with an own goal from Sean Murray's shot just before half-time and soon after the break Lloyd Jones doubled the lead before John Goddard made it three late on. Goddard sealed the win, thumping home Yaser Kasim's pass from eight yards.

Southend beat Bury 4-1 thanks to a goal in either half from Nile Ranger. After Ranger had opened the scoring Simon Cox made it 2-0 after just 12 minutes and although James Vaughan pulled one back from the penalty spot Ranger and Stephen McLaughlin ensured there were no slip-ups from the visitors.

Shrewsbury's first league win in over two months lifted them off the bottom of the table after a 2-0 win at home to Oxford. AJ Leitch-Smith put them ahead after 19 minutes but not until Shaun Whalley scored in the eighth minute of added time was the result secured.
