Sheffield United have been crowned Sky Bet League One champions after second-placed Bolton suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Oldham on Saturday.

Only a win for Bolton at Boundary Park would have prevented the Blades from clinching the title and their hopes of doing so were boosted when Oldham were reduced to 10 men with Michael Ngoo shown a second yellow card.

However, they were unable to make their numerical advantage count and conceded with 14 minutes remaining, Lee Erwin netting the winner for the resurgent Latics.

It caps a superb first season in charge at Bramall Lane for Chris Wilder and his side could still reach the 100-point mark if they win their remaining three matches.

United clinched promotion to the Championship last Saturday after claiming a 2-1 win away at Northampton - ending their six season stay in England's third tier.

Wilder, who succeeded Nigel Adkins last May having led Northampton to the League Two title, has won 27 of his 43 matches in charge, losing just six times this season.

Much of their success has been down to the goalscoring form of Billy Sharp, who was named the EFL League One Player of the Year earlier this month.
