Bristol City have signed Italian defender Eros Pisano on a free transfer from Hellas Verona.

The 30-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and will join the Robins formally from Saturday, when his contract expires with the Italian club.

He becomes the first new arrival at Ashton Gate this summer and City boss Lee Johnson thinks Pisano has all the attributes to make a seamless transition into Championship football.

"Eros brings with him a winning mentality, having just won promotion with Verona," Johnson told the club's official website. "He's a tough cookie and that's what we're after in that position; resilience and strength to go along with the good young players - Zak Vyner and Taylor Moore - already competing in that place.

"He's strong physically, 6ft 1in tall and will add goals to us as well. It's great to have a big full-back. His style is aggressive but he's also very athletic. He's competent on the ball, using it well and gets up and down the right side."

Pisano came through the youth system at Varese, in Italy, and made 180 appearances for the club before signing for Palermo in 2011 for a fee of 1.85million euros. He spent almost four years at Palermo and helped them win the Serie B title in 2014.
