Dwight Gayle will not be moving to Bristol City from Crystal Palace, Steve Cotterill has confirmed.

Palace accepted a £6m bid which could have risen to £8m with add-ons from the Robins but Gayle is not willing to move to the newly promoted Championship side.

“Dwight Gayle will not be coming here now,” Cotterill said.

“He has made it clear he does not want to come, so we have to move on.”

Eagles boss Alan Pardew indicated it was down to Gayle to decide his next move after making it clear he wanted to leave Selhurst Park.

Speaking on Friday he said: “I’ve talked to Dwight. He was a little upset last year but it can be difficult to fit him into the way I play.

“He has 20 goals in him. He came to me at the start of the year and expressed a desire to move. A club has come in and now it’s his decision.

“Dwight can play in the Premier League for sure. The decision is his.”
