Nottingham Forest's potential new owners have made an initial approach to Gary Rowett to discuss the possibility of him becoming the club's new manager once their takeover is complete, Sky Sources understand.
The former owner of the San Diego Padres, John Jay Moores, is leading a US consortium that is in the final stages of buying an 80 per cent stake in Forest - leaving current owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi a 20 per cent investment in the club.
Both sides are hopeful the takeover will be completed before the weekend.
If they are successful in their takeover, the Americans are expected to bring in their own man to replace Forest's current manager, Phillipe Montanier, though he will still be in charge for Saturday's trip to Birmingham City, whether or not the deal is completed before then.
Sources close to former Birmingham boss Rowett have revealed he is interested in talking to Forest's new owners, but he's mindful that the club already has a manager in place, and it's understood he wants to show due respect to Montanier.
Sky sources also understand Moores and his fellow executives have already begun initial approaches to players who they may want to sign in this transfer window.
Delays in the takeover deal going through have left the Americans frustrated, however, and concerned they will now have limited time in January to improve the squad.
