Nottingham Forest have hired Frank McParland as director of football, three weeks after he left Rangers.

The former Liverpool scout and academy director left Rangers at the same time as manager Mark Warburton and David Weir after the club announced they had resigned.

The trio "categorically deny" resigning, according to Sky sources, after interest from Forest last month, but have not returned to the Scottish Premiership club.

On Friday Forest announced: "Frank McParland has joined the club as director of football.

"McParland, 56, has joined the club on a temporary basis until the summer with a view to making the role permanent."

McParland first worked with Warburton and Weir at Brentford, after spells with Bolton and Watford, and helped build the side that took the Bees to the Championship play-offs in 2015 in their first season following promotion from League One.

The trio were sacked by Brentford, however, and McParland spent five months as Burnley's sporting director before joining Warburton in Scotland in October 2015.
