Oldham have interviewed Manchester United great Paul Scholes for their vacant manager's position, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News understands 42-year-old Scholes and current caretaker manager Richie Wellens are the leading candidates for the Sky Bet League One job.
Scholes, who retired from professional football in May 2013 after a 20-year career with Manchester United, has been a frequent attendee at Boundary Park over the past few seasons and lives locally to the club.
Oldham parted company with former manager John Sheridan on September 25 following a poor start to the campaign and have since interviewed Clarence Seedorf and Steven Pressley for the vacant role in recent weeks.
Former AC Milan manager Seedorf was given a tour of the team's training facilities last month, and Sky sources understand a decision on an appointment will be made next week.
The Latics lost seven of their opening nine games under Sheridan but have since turned their form around with three consecutive victories with caretaker boss Wellens.
The League Out outfit remain in 19th-place in the league and host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
