Swansea have parted company with Spanish forward Michu by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old was under contract until the end of the season, but the Premier League club and the player have reached a financial agreement and terminated the deal.

Michu is now free to find a new club in order to kick-start his playing career in January.

The Spaniard, who became an instant hit with the supporters following his £2m move from Rayo Vallecano in the summer of 2012, scored 28 goals in 67 appearances during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

Michu began his Swansea career in style, scoring two goals in a 5-0 victory over QPR at Loftus Road and finished his first season with 22 goals in 43 games, including the second strike in the Capital One Cup final win over Bradford at Wembley.

And Michu's form in his second year led to a call-up from Spain coach Vincente Del Bosque, leading to his solitary cap for his national team.

Following a lengthy injury and loss of form, Michu spent a season-long loan with Italian side Napoli, but injuries restricted him to just five appearances for the Serie A club.

A statement on the club's website read: "Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Michu for his service to the club, and wish him well in the future."
