Mansfield reject Gillingham's Steve Evans approach

Leeds manager Steve Evans did not speak to the media after the defeat at Brighton

Mansfield Town have rejected an approach from Gillingham for manager Steve Evans, according to Sky sources.

The League One Gills are looking for a new boss after the departure of Ady Pennock last Monday and were interested in discussing the vacancy with Evans.

The experienced manager took charge of Mansfield last November and they are eighth in the League Two table after Saturday's 3-1 win over leaders Notts County.

But Gillingham are second bottom of League One with just seven points from 11 games.

Director of football Peter Taylor is currently in charge on an interim basis following the departure of Pennock, who had his contract terminated after a 3-0 loss to Rochdale on 23 September.
