Northampton midfielder Matty Taylor has signed a new 12-month contract with the club, but Adam Smith and Zander Diamond are among five players released.

Taylor, 35, who signed a one-year deal when arriving on a free transfer from Burnley in August 2016, has activated an appearance-related clause in his contract.

"Really pleased to sign a contract extension for another 12 months," Taylor said on Twitter. "Thank you for the support this season & I've loved every minute."

Goalkeeper Smith and defender Diamond, plus right-back Neal Eardley, midfielder Emmanuel Sonupe and winger Paul Anderson are all out of contract and will not be offered new deals.

Congolese defender Gabriel Zakuani has been offered new terms, subject to an agreement being reached on his international commitments, while Jak McCourt, Harry Beautyman, Raheem Hanley and Rod McDonald have all been placed on the transfer list despite being under contract for next season.
