Reeves leaves Cobblers

Northampton Town have cancelled the contract of midfielder Martin Reeves.

Northampton Town have cancelled the contract of midfielder Martin Reeves.

The former Leicester City player has become surplus to requirements at The Sixfields Stadium, with the player having asked to be transfer-listed back in October.

The year-old has been released in order to find pastures new, with League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town having run the rule over Reeves recently.

Calderwood hopes that letting Reeves leave The Cobblers at this stage will give him a chance to find a new club.

"His chances here have been limited lately, but hopefully by making this decision now, Martin will have every chance to beat the rush of out-of-contract players and will be able to get himself fixed up somewhere else," Calderwood told the club's official website.

Another player to leave Sixfields on Friday was defender Chris Carruthers, who has joined Conference North side Kettering Town on loan.

Carruthers had spent time on loan at crisis club Hornchurch this season after also falling out of favour with his parent club.
