Pirates capture Carruthers

Chris Carruthers has joined Bristol Rovers, despite agreeing terms with Wycombe Wanderers.

The former Northampton Town star agreed to move to Wycombe earlier this month, but a late move from Pirates boss Ian Atkins has persuaded him to move to The Memorial Stadium.

Wycombe manager John Gorman admitted Carruthers had his blessing as he could not offer guaranteed first team football, unlike Atkins.

"I spoke to Chris and he's been told by Bristol Rovers that he'll play regularly for them and I put it to him that he couldn't be guaranteed that here," said Gorman.

"We've allowed him to go because we want players that want to be here and if he's undecided, it's better that his future lies somewhere else."

Meanwhile, reports in the West Country are suggesting that assistant manager Kevan Broadhurst has been made redundant by the League Two outfit.

Though no official confirmation has been made by The Pirates, it is thought Rovers are negotiating a pay-off with Broadhurst while the club search for a new first team player-coach and youth development manager.
