Chris Hughton hopes Anthony Knockaert will be fit for Brighton's Premier League debut despite ankle ligament damage.

Last season's Championship Player of the Year was injured during Albion's friendly against Fortuna Dusseldorf in Austria last week.

Hughton expects the winger to miss around three weeks of pre-season, making him a doubt for the home game against Manchester City on August 12.

But the manager said: "I'm very hopeful he'll make the season. He has a chance for Manchester City, but we'll assess it.

Glen Murray says Brighton's aim for the first 2-3 years will be to keep the club in the Premier League.

"It's not serious, but it needs time to settle down. I'm confident it won't keep him out for a sustained period."
