Leyton Orient's owner kicked assistant manager Andy Hessenthaler in an extraordinary incident after Saturday's League Two game at Brisbane Road

A bizarre incident occurred after Leyton Orient's win over Portsmouth - when the club's president kicked out at the assistant manager.

After the final whistle went following Orient's excellent 3-2 victory in Sky Bet League 2 on Boxing Day, Orient assistant boss Andy Hessenthaler gestured and appeared to say something to the seats behind the dug-outs.

The club's owner and president, Francesco Becchetti, then followed Hessenthaler onto the Brisbane Road pitch and aimed a kick at him.

Hessenthaler was quick to play the incident down, saying: "Well, it is Boxing Day, to be fair. It was nothing - it was fine. It was a little bit of banter; something that's been going on between us over the last few weeks.

"It probably looked worse than it was but it's all good. He's a passionate guy, you can see that."

Orient also issued a statement, saying: "There was absolutely nothing untoward about the exchange and the two men get along very well professionally on the pitch and personally off the pitch.

"Mr Becchetti and Mr Hessenthaler were extremely pleased with the result of the game and were celebrating a very well deserved and exciting win."
