Eddie Howe has backed Bournemouth to adapt to the long-term loss of top scorer Callum Wilson.

A cruciate ligament injury suffered at Stoke means Wilson, who had scored five goals in his first seven Premier League games, will be missing for at least six months.

He is the third Bournemouth player - after big-money summer signings Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel - to succumb to the injury already this season.

But Howe will not look for excuses, and ahead of Saturday's home game against Watford he said: "We're going to be a different team now with Callum being out. It is up to everybody to step up and give more.

"Last season we were so consistent with our team selection, so this challenge is new for us. But the players who have stepped in have done well so far.

"I don't think you'll see a real change in style, but we are going to have to adapt."

Tommy Elphick and Harry Arter are also on the sidelines, and Howe added: "One of the loneliest things about being injured is the isolation, but the thing they have in common is that the injured players will have each other to lean on.

"Callum took the news of his injury like a man. He really impressed me with how he handled the bad news."
