Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe has admitted he will seriously consider representing DR Congo

Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe has admitted he will seriously consider representing DR Congo, the country he qualifies for through his parents, despite the possibility of a future England call-up.

Afobe, who moved to Bournemouth from Wolves for £10m in January, has an England youth career stretching back 11 years, having captained the Under-12s, won the Victory Shield with the U16s, while also turning out for the U17s, U19s and U21s.

But he revealed the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team are interested in selecting the 23-year-old, and that he would sit down with his parents and agent to consider it.

He told Sky Sports: "We'll see in the next international break what will happen, but I know they are interested in me, and it's something my family, my agent and myself are going to have to sit down and talk about.

"Of course [it's a big decision to make] because you know once you've played the international game that isn't a friendly, that's you done, you get to choose once and you have to live with it.

"But hopefully I will choose well with my family and I won't regret anything."

Afobe has three goals in his six appearances for the Cherries so far this season, having hit 23 in two seasons with Wolves.

But the striker says his ultimate ambition is to be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, and wants to be remembered as a legendary Premier League hit man.

Asked who the best striker in the Premier League was at present, Afobe said: "Aguero. Everyone knows he's a world-class centre forward. There's loads of strikers, even the young ones like Harry Kane, and Romelu Lukaku at Everton.

"They've been doing really well and have made a name for themselves, but it's just about being really consistent.

"It's great to see strikers scoring goals week in, week out, and hopefully one day I can be one of them, someone who can say: 'He scores goals for fun in the Premier League.'"
