Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says his team must avoid a slow start to the Premier League season and having to catch up with other clubs

Eddie Howe has underlined the importance of Saturday's game at Crystal Palace as Bournemouth look to kickstart their season ahead of the international break.

Bournemouth have found life tough in the opening weeks of their second season in the top flight, losing to both Manchester United and West Ham before winning at Morecambe in the EFL cup in midweek.

The trip to Selhurst Park offers the chance to climb off the bottom and Howe is expecting another tight contest.   

He said: "This game is very important - we want to get our season started before the international break, I'm not going to downplay it.

"They have recruited well and we're expecting a physical challenge - it will be a tough game for us. It will be interesting to see how they set up.

"Christian Benteke is a good player, he brings a physical perspective and a different kind of dynamic for them but they have other good players.

"Every game is so tight in the Premier League there's nothing between a lot of the sides. One incident can swing the game against you, as we have found to our cost.

"Wednesday [at Morecambe] was a big boost. It was a tough game and the players got some good game-time. We want our first league win now.

"A few of the players did very well in the game, showed a good mentality to the game and showed good fitness levels. We've got a big squad I have tough decisions every game."

Jordon Ibe has been substituted in both his appearances for his new side and Howe has called for the fans to be patient with the summer recruit from Liverpool.

He said: "Jordon will need time to see the very best of him here and I'm very excited about his future.

"We're not imminently ready to announce a signing. I've made it clear we're looking for one more, but it may not be a high-profile signing."
