Eddie Howe insists Chelsea have not asked to recall Nathan Ake from his Bournemouth loan spell in January.

The Daily Star newspaper reported this week that the Blues were considering pulling defender Ake out of the Vitality Stadium due to lack of playing time.

The 21-year-old, who is a product of Chelsea's academy, has made only four appearances since joining on a season-long loan in the summer.

Howe will make late fitness calls on Callum Wilson and Andrew Surman for Stoke

Cherries boss Howe said: "We've had meetings with Chelsea regarding his progression but there's been no mention of January or anything like that.

"Obviously it's up to me to make the best decisions for Bournemouth.

"But we love Nathe. We think he's a really talented player with a bright future ahead of him."

Ake could make his first Premier League appearance since August if he comes in at centre-back, while Tyrone Mings is also in contention for a long-awaited return, but Simon Francis or Lewis Cook could also move to right-back.

Howe said: "Adam Smith has been a big player for us but I think we have the strength in depth to cover.

"The back four has done very well so I'm disappointed to break that unit up, but I believe in the players that can come in. I have a few options and decisions to make.

"Everyone is back. We will wait and see on Callum Wilson and Andrew Surman. They've made good progress, both players, but I'm always mindful of hamstring injuries. We've got to be careful. They've both improved but we will make late decisions on both."
