Rotherham have appointed Nicky Eaden as caretaker manager following the departure of Neil Redfearn.
Former Barnsley defender Eaden, 43, only joined the club five days ago as assistant to Redfearn, who was sacked on Monday after four months in the job.
The South Yorkshire club have also confirmed first-team coach Andy Hughes has left the club.
"Following discussions with the board of directors, Rotherham United can confirm that assistant manager Nicky Eaden will take charge of first-team duties whilst the club continues the search for a new first team manager," read a brief statement on the club's official website.
"Nicky will be assisted by Paul Warne and Andy Dibble."
Eaden left his role as a coach with Leicester's under-21s to replace Eric Black as Rotherham's assistant and linked back up with former Barnsley team-mate Redfearn.
Redfearn, 50, was sacked after Saturday's 2-1 Sky Bet Championship defeat to Bolton, which left the Millers third bottom.
The former Leeds boss only won five of his 21 games after taking over in October, losing 14, and Rotherham have won just once in their last eight games in all competitions.
Former Reading, Norwich, Leeds and Charlton midfielder Hughes quit as Bolton's professional development coach to take on the first-team coach's role at Rotherham in December.
"First team coach Andy Hughes has left Rotherham United with immediate effect," the club said.
"Rotherham United would like to place on record our thanks to Andy for his efforts whilst with the club, and we wish him well for the future."
Former Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio and ex-Newcastle boss John Carver have both been linked with the manager's vacancy.
