Rotherham are in talks with former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett over him succeeding Alan Stubbs as the club's new manager.
The Millers sacked Stubbs on Wednesday with the club five points adrift at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship following a run of six straight defeats.
Sky sources understand Rotherham have a three-man shortlist and are hopeful of making a quick appointment.
Jackett has been out of work since being dismissed as Wolves manager in July, just eight days before the start of the 2016/17 campaign, after three seasons at Molineux.
The 54-year-old, who has previously enjoyed spells in charge of Swansea and Millwall, led Wolves to the League One title in his first season - with a record total of 103 points.
Wolves missed out on the play-offs on goal difference in the following campaign but were threatening to break into the top six last season until a run of just four wins in their last 16 matches saw them finish in mid-table.
If Jackett agrees terms to become Rotherham's new manager, his first match in charge could be against Reading at the New York Stadium on Saturday.
