Rotherham have completed the signing of defender Joel Ekstrand until the end of the season.
The Swede's contract with Bristol City was terminated just before Tuesday's deadline, which allowed him to join the Millers as a free agent on Thursday.
Former Watford centre-back Ekstrand joined Bristol City in September last year but had made just two appearances for the Sky Bet Championship side this season.
"He will bring some experience, some calmness and strength to our side," interim Rotherham manager Paul Warne said. "He is a Swedish lad, and I love Scandinavians. I think their attitude to sport is excellent.
"He hasn't played as much as he would have liked this year, but he has played a lot of games at Watford.
"I want to make the point that I haven't signed him because it is past the window, this is a deal that I wanted to conclude before the window but he was trying to sort out his departure from Bristol City."
The 27-year-old could potentially make his debut against his former club this weekend when Rotherham visit Ashton Gate.
