Brentford players and officials spent Tuesday evening at the cinema, watching a special screening of the short film WONDERKID.

The event was organised in conjunction with Sky Sports, the LGBT@Sky Network and the Football Supporters' Federation's 'Fans for Diversity' campaign.

WONDERKID highlights the problem of homophobia in football, focusing on a young footballer whose sexuality is threatening to alienate him from the game.

It has won support from a number of different organisations, including the FA and the Premier League.

The main character, played by Chris Mason, has accepted that he is gay and wants to come out, but finds his profession holding him back.

After watching the film, Brentford chief executive Mark Devlin told Sky Sports News HQ: "I think we are all working hard, the EFL, the Premier League, the Football Association, the clubs themselves, to be as open and inclusive as possible.

"I think we have got a long way to go. Society has got a long way to go and football mirrors society.

"We are still learning about how we can be more inclusive and more open."

Brentford goalkeeper Dan Bentley said: "Things like this are a real stepping stone.

"I think, going forward, the main thing is people getting a better understanding. We have to learn and be educated about the subject."
