Michael Rose has joined Sky Bet League Two side Morecambe on a one-year contract following his release by Rochdale.
The 34-year-old defender spent more than three years at Spotland, scoring nine goals across 132 appearances.
Shrimps boss Jim Bentley told the club's official website: "I have always admired Michael and he was someone I was keen to sign once I knew he had been released.
"We have a young squad overall and his vast experience will be vital for us this season. He is a leader and he can play in a number of positions and he is an excellent addition to our squad."
Rose, a former Manchester United trainee, has also played for Chester, Hereford, Yeovil, Cheltenham, Scunthorpe, Stockport, Norwich, Swindon and Colchester.
He is Morecambe's third capture in three days following the arrivals of Liverpool loanee Jack Dunn and former Burnley goalkeeper Danijel Nizic on Saturday. Bentley has also brought in Liam Wakefield, Cole Stockton, Luke Conlan, Rhys Turner, Dean Winnard and Alex Whitmore during the summer.
