Sky Bet, the title sponsor of the Football League, covered the cost of tickets and travel for the Carlisle United fans travelling to Plymouth on Tuesday.

Seventy-nine loyal Carlisle fans made the 779-mile round trip, dubbed the 'longest away day in the Football League'.

Cumbrians had 42 fans on an official coach, which set off at 10am Tuesday morning and was not expected to return to Carlisle until 5am on Wednesday.

Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: "We took a call from the Football League and Sky Bet this morning and Sky Bet were keen to support our fans who are making the trip down to Plymouth tonight.

"To sell 79 tickets for such a long trip on a Tuesday night is phenomenal from our fans and we're pleased their loyalty to the club has been rewarded."

Sky Bet Head of Sponsorship Edwin Martin said: "As Carlisle to Plymouth is the longest trip in The Football League and given it is on a Tuesday night, we thought the loyal Carlisle fans making the trip deserved a bit of help to make their away day trip even better.

"We were delighted to be able to pay for their match ticket and coach travel and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season."
