Hearts manager Robbie Neilson is scheduled to travel to MK Dons for talks on Tuesday afternoon, according to Sky sources.
The 36-year-old was present at Hearts' training on Tuesday morning and is still expected to take charge of Wednesday's match against Rangers at Tynecastle.
The League One side confirmed on Monday the club had made an official approach to Hearts for Neilson with regards to their vacant managerial position.
MK Dons have been seeking a new manager since Karl Robinson left the club more than a month ago by mutual consent.
An MK statement said: "Milton Keynes Dons Football Club can confirm it has made an official approach for Heart of Midlothian's head coach Robbie Neilson with regards to its vacant managerial position.
"The club respects that Hearts has an important fixture with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening and, therefore, no further comment will be made until after that match."
A Hearts statement added: "Robbie is aware of the approach but he remains fully focused on the immediate task at hand, which is of course, Rangers at home on Wednesday.
"No further comment or statement will be made by the club until after this match."
Neilson, 36, has been in charge of Hearts for the last two and a half years having previously been in charge of the club's U20 side.
He won the Scottish Championship in his first full season - beating Hibernian and Rangers to the title - then led the team to a third-place finish on their return to the Premiership last season.
The Tynecastle side are currently fourth in the standings after 14 games but could pull level with Rangers on points with a home win against them.
Robinson had been English football's third longest-serving manager after spending almost six and a half years with MK Dons.
The club had offered former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard the chance to start his managerial career with them after he left LA Galaxy but he turned them down last week.
