Peterborough have sacked manager Graham Westley after just seven months in charge.

Owner Darragh MacAnthony, swinging the axe on Posh's 10th manager since he took over as club chairman in 2006, "parted company" with Westley after Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Scunthorpe.

It was their fourth defeat in five League One matches and left the club 14th in the table with two matches of the season remaining.

A statement read: "The club would like to thank Graham for his efforts.

"Grant McCann will take charge of the remaining two Sky Bet League One fixtures. Chairman Darragh MacAnthony will take time to speak to prospective candidates for the vacant manager position."

Former Northern Ireland international McCann, who was Wesley's assistant, previously had a spell in caretaker charge before Westley's appointment last September.

Peterborough had targetted a push for the play-off places this season but Saturday's defeat at London Road was their 21st of the season.
